A diverse, gospel-centered community on mission for Jesus in Manassas.

In order to achieve our vision of being a diverse community that proclaims the Gospel and makes disciples for the glory of God and the renewal of our city, we must hold these essential values.

This is the core of all our other values. The gospel is the message of God’s saving work through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The gospel tells us God’s overarching redemptive plan in history and it transforms the lives of individual people by canceling their debt of sin and restoring their relationship with God.

(Mark 1:14, Romans 1:16, Ephesians 2:1-10, 1 Corinthians 15:1-5)

The gospel is revealed in truth through the scriptures of the Old and New Testament by pointing us to the person and work of Jesus Christ. The scriptures and the person of Christ are God’s revelation to us, communicating what we are to believe about Him and what His will is for our lives. As a church we are committed to God’s truth and this is expressed through preaching directly from the scriptures and building the church’s beliefs and practices exclusively on Bible.

(Psalm 86:11, John 14:6, 2nd Timothy 3:16)

The gospel brings new life. Because of sin, we once were spiritually dead but have been made alive in Christ. Through our union with the living God we find our deepest satisfaction, our reason for living, and our ultimate joy through our relationship with Him. This new vitality is expressed through earnest prayer, vibrant worship, and ultimately walking with God in all of life by the indwelling Holy Spirit.

(John 4:23-24, Ephesians 2:1-5, 1 Peter 2:4-5)

The gospel not only changes how we relate to God but also how we treat one another. Having been adopted as God the Father’s children, we now relate to one another as family, and pursue authentic relationships with each other. We will care for, encourage, lovingly confront, and walk in genuine love for one another as we grow together in Christ. We seek to be a diverse family, which is only explainable through the gospel.

(Acts 2:42-47, Ephesians 4:1-6, 1 John 3:14-18)

The gospel must now be proclaimed by Jesus’ disciples in every sphere of society while making his mercy tangible to the suffering. New City Fellowship will engage in this mission in our homes, neighborhoods, city, and ultimately to the ends of the earth. Our church meetings are a welcome place for both the spiritually disengaged and the skeptical, and we will walk with people in love regardless of their doubts or struggles.

(Matthew 28:19, Acts 13:1-3, 2 Corinthians 5:18-21)

At New City, we follow a Gospel-shaped and Gospel-focused Liturgy, which means “a work of the people”. It includes passages of Scripture, prayers, and songs, which together help to point clearly to the glory of God. Our hope is that by telling the greatest story ever told, we could help to form Christians by proclaiming the gospel explicitly, and experiencing the gospel implicitly. We believe that what the church has practiced for thousands of years, and more importantly, the model of Scripture, should inform what components are a part of our gathered services.

Each week we submit the service to the Lord through prayer, spend time reflecting on the scripture passage that will be preached, and then work to put a Liturgy together that communicates the gospel in a compelling, creative, and faithfully formative way.

Our desire is not to be cold or lifeless in this liturgy, but to be compelling, creative, and passionate. Our services include dynamic heartfelt prayers, readings from Scripture, and a diverse repertoire of worship music.

We hold these truths in humble conviction and believe them to be fully taught and validated by Scripture. THE SCRIPTURES // We believe God wrote the bible through men without error. The Old and New Testaments, in their entirety, constitute the written Word of God and are without error, both inerrant and infallible, in the original manuscripts. They were written by men, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and are therefore fully authoritative in all matters for the follower of Christ.

THE GODHEAD // We believe that God exists eternally in trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. There is one God, infinite, eternal, and unchangeable in His being, wisdom, power, holiness, love, justice, goodness, and truth, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, co-equal in power and glory, who desires that we should know Him intimately and live a life of fulfillment through the pursuit of His glory.

PERSON AND WORK OF JESUS CHRIST // We believe that Jesus Christ is the second person of the Trinity who became a man without ceasing to be God, lived a sinless life, died on a cross, was buried, and rose bodily from the grave to redeem sinful humanity.

PERSON AND WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT // We believe that the Holy Spirit is the supernatural agent in salvation, baptizing all christians into the universal church at conversion, indwelling and sealing them until the day of Christ’s return.

HUMANITY AND SALVATION // We believe all humans are sinful and in need of salvation. Salvation is the the gift of God brought to humans by grace alone, and received by repentance and personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. A true christian will be kept by God’s power forever.

SANCTIFICATION AND HOLINESS // We believe that God will bring about sanctification and holiness in the life of a believer by the means of the gospel, through the power of the Holy Spirit, and with the active effort of the individual.

IMAGE OF GOD: MALE AND FEMALE // We believe that God has created all humans in His image. He has created them uniquely female and male. All humans are created in God’s image; therefore all human life is sacred. In creating humans as male and female, God communicated His image in harmonious interpersonal relationships, equality of personhood and importance and a distinction in role and authority.

THE UNIVERSAL CHURCH // We believe that the church is a spiritual organism made up of all believers everywhere for all time. All Christians in all times and in all places have been united into a single body by an operation of God. This resultant union is called the Body of Christ, the Universal Church.

THE LOCAL CHURCH // We believe in the autonomy of the local church and recognize believers baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

CONSUMMATION: LAST THINGS // We believe that Jesus will return to earth to judge all people and to rule and reign with His saints forever. All people will be resurrected to give account of their lives before God. The believer in Christ will be resurrected to everlasting blessedness and joy in the presence of God. The unbeliever will be resurrected to judgment and everlasting conscious punishment.
